How to Check Your Laptop’s Battery Health in Windows 10

Every battery loses the ability to hold charges over time. For your laptop, the battery’s performance can affect how you get things done; that’s why it is important to monitor your laptop battery’s health. Windows 10 makes it possible to check your laptop’s health status so you can make the necessary changes to keep the laptop’s performance at its best.
Checking the laptop’s battery health is not a complicated process. You will need to have access to the administrator account, though, in case you’re sharing it with someone else.

To check the health of your Windows 10 laptop, open Command Prompt from the Start menu. Type:
The process can take about a minute or so.
If you have one of the latest versions of Windows 10, you can right-click on the Start menu and select PowerShell, but make sure you choose the one with administrative privileges.

Keep in mind that if you’re using a new OS (that also includes Insider builds), the battery report might not have enough information to show you.
If that’s your case, try to generate a battery report once you’ve gone through a few more power cycles. Once you use the battery for a few more days, you should be able to get the report without any issues.

When your laptop is done with the report, it will indicate where the battery report has been saved. To see the report, open File Explorer by clicking on the icon on your taskbar. You can also find it using the search bar.

A second option to access the battery report is pressing Win + R and typing the location of the report. The location will look like “C:\WINDOWS\system32\energy-report.html.”

When you open the report, you’ll see information that will tell you some essential information about your laptop’s battery. In the “Recent Usage” section of the report, you can see the power source the battery had and when you turned your laptop on and off (Active/Suspended). You can even see how much capacity is left in the laptop’s battery.

With the Battery Capacity and the Usage History, you can also get a good idea of how the laptop’s battery is holding up. It can be a real pain if your laptop’s battery dies when you’re in the middle of something important. To see how much time is left in your battery, see the Battery life estimates section.
It’s always a good idea to know how healthy your laptop’s battery is. That way you know when you should be looking into a replacement. The best thing you can do is have good battery habits. These habits will prevent you from doing anything that will cut your laptop’s battery short. Did the battery report show any info you found useful? Let us know in the comments.
